On C size sensor this lens is good even thou it becomes a 36-105mm. Taking into account of CZ lens pricing I say this lens is a real deal minus the T-coating on CZ lenses.

Sure the price for this lens might have been on the high side comparing to sigmas from the past but quality wise is there. The copy I had was sharp on new and it never gave me front nor rear focus tingy. Many mention about sigma and their bad quality control, I differ on this aspect. Sigma being a 3rd party lens manufacturer has really made leap and bounds on this lens for the alpha mount. Have yet to purchase better quality to try. Have some flare issues but after removing the filter it disappears, must have been to the cheaper grade filters I installed. Factoring in the pricing I can surely live with that. But I am sure many can live with it.Ī tad not as sharp as the CZ 24-70 wide open ( F2.8 24mm ).

The hood as compare to the CZ is not on par. Really positive as compare to the CZ lens of the same reach has to be the pricing.

Tamron - SP AF 24-135 F3.5-5.6 AD Aspherical IF MacroĬonstant 2.8 good for the X center focus on some alpha body.įocusing and zooming does not rotate it's filter is a real plus point. But if your looking for the absolute sharpest lens in this category, this is not the number. So overall, this lens is really very, very good. My guess is no, that you could get equivalent quality for less, but probably at the cost of speed, or at the cost of hypersonic motor drive. Is it's sharpness worth $900, that's the question, and I don't think I can answer. I spoke about the sharpness, yes this lens is quite sharp, but it's not on the level of the lenses that cost twice as much, and you say of course not. But there are those times that the longer focus cannot be replaced. This lens is so good that I question weather I really need my 100-300 any longer, it's such an excellent all-around lens. They are big, but I like how the lens works, and I like how it looks, so this size does not affect me in the least. Speaking of combinations, I love that my filters are interchangeable. Now maybe I wouldn't if I didn't have the option of an extremely smooth bokah with my 100-300mm, but the combination of the two for me is great! Check out the portrait I took of my daughter, I love the added sparkle I got from a bit of light breaking thru the trees, and how well defined the flowers are, yet are very much blurred and cause the photo to "Pop." I've become a big fan of this style of bokah.

Some reviewers complained about the bokah as being overly busy, and when I first saw it I agreed, but after using the lens I really appreciate how I can get a full smooth bokah with my 100-300 and a much more defined edging with my 24-70mm. The portraits are very good, you can see a few that I recently took on the sample image page. Not only that, when I carry this camera, I usually flip the camera to my back and this combo carries very well that way. Many times I not only carry this lens, but my 100-300mm as well, so this one's a feather comparatively and much more usable. Not as sharp as top rated lenses in this class.

Fast, great color, excellent focus that is very good in low light, filter sizes match my 100-300mm lens, pro quality portraits with interesting bokah, and the lens looks awesome on my camera.Ĭost. Kit Lens, Sigma 100-300mm F4 EX DG APO HSMīuild quality, this lens is a tank. Would I recommend this lens? Yes, absolutely! This is really wonderful because only few sony cameras lenses can be micro-adjusted. This Sigma 24-70 2.8 hsm is really spot on no micro-adjustment needed on my sony a850, and not on my sony a580 and a700. The disadvantage of the tamron 28-75 2.8 is that in autofocus it frontfocuses. Apart from that, it had a really slow autofocus. The disadvantage of the minolta 28-70 2.8 G (which I sold) that its mfd was not so good. So far, I haven't seen any hunting, even not in low light situations. It is not too big and not too small either.
